A Guide to Wimbledon
So, on Sunday at midday I met my friend, with a hangover in tow, at Wimbledon to begin our mammoth camping and queuing session in SW19 all to catch a glimpse of our favourite tennis players.
After an overnight camping stint and a wake-up call of 5.30am I was exhausted by the time I got into Wimbledon at 10am and passed out on Murray Mound (previously Henman Hill and Rusedski Ridge) for an hour’s sleep. The sun was shining and when I awoke I had turned into one of Wimbledon’s infamous strawberries, not a good look! How was I supposed to impress Federer on centre court that afternoon looking like that!? Thankfully after a five-set thriller I don’t think he was up for pulling girls out of the crowd in rock-star concert style.
All in all the camping was great fun and really adds to the experience and excitement of Wimbledon. There was a great atmosphere and not to mention the great location of seats available on centre court for the first 500 in the queue. However I would have packed a better picnic, our next door neighbours had the right idea with red wine, gourmet sandwiches and homemade quiche.
My fashion highlight of the tournament so far has to be tennis skirt. I mean how great was Venus Williams’ twenties ruffle skirt!? Sue Barker eat your heart out.

American Apparel Dresscode and Hiring Policy
So, it seems that American Apparel have a strict hiring and dresscode policy. This week gawker.com revealed that applicants have to send in a full head-toe body shot of them when applying for a job. American Apparel moles have been coming to Gawker.com in crowds telling them exactly what goes on behind-the-scenes. One ex-employee reported that “The only girls that were not totally emaciated were forced to work back-stock. So as not to disgust the customers with their average-sized hips.”
Full details of the official dress code can be found on The Cut blog. Highlights include formal warnings for chipped nail varnish, girls being told to grow out their eyebrows and the best one of them all; mascara colour should compliment skin and haircolour. All dresscode ‘don’ts’ are justified with “It is not part of the direction we’re moving in”. So, I’m assuming that all those who support the brand for ethical reasons will think again. Suddenly bankruptcy for the brand doesn’t seem so far away.

The festival season has begun!
The festival season has officially kicked off with Isle of White last weekend, and what a start it’s had with amazing performances from The Strokes, Florence and the Machine, Jay-Z and a stunning set from Paul McCartney who closed the festival.
So with Glastonbury, V Festival, Reading and Leeds, Lovebox, Field Day, Bestival and many more still to come, the big question is what are the essential things to take to a festival? Well, stop your worrying, here they are:
o Wellies – never leave without a pair, gladiators in the mud and a trip to toilet just ain’t going to cut it.
o Long socks – practical, to stop any rubbing from wellies, but also warm and the epitome of festival chic.
o Oversized sunglasses – to hide a multitude of sins from the night before
o Fedora/Panama hat – perfect for the sun or to cover from the formidable English showers. Channel that inner boho. I’m loving Pachacuti for the perfect Panama.
o Denim cut-offs – Effortlessly cool and if you can’t rock them at a festival when can you!? I’m getting my holiday skin at the ready in preparation first though...
o Long-lasting make-up and nail varnish – As let’s be honest, I have every intention of taking my make-up off and re-applying it and my nail varnish when necessary but when I collapse in the early hours high on Florence et al it may not happen. Honesty is the best possible.
o Hairband – A weekend without straighteners will take its toll, and that’s not even going into hat hair...
o Glitter/bright lipgloss – If you can’t experiment with glitter, fake lashes and neon pink lipgloss at a festival, when can you?
